Sacrifices. What does it mean? According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, one of the meanings is to suffer loss of, give up, renounce, injure, or destroy especially for an ideal, belief, or end. A sacrifice can be something small or something great. We sacrifice something daily in our lives. We sacrifice sleeping late in order to get up to go to work. Parents sacrifice getting the things they want so they can give their children something they desire. Sometimes we sacrifice going first in line when someone comes along with just one item. Sometimes sacrifices are easy and sometimes they're hard.
This week we "celebrate" Veterans Day. This is the day we honor those who had sacrificed their lives for this country in order for us to have freedom. On that day, some or most of us send out a "thank you" to those families who lost their family members to war. We even may send out a "thank you" for those who fought and are still alive. We should never forget their sacrifices.
There's one Person's sacrifice that's greater than anyone else's. That's the sacrifice Jesus made for us. Us meaning the entire human race and not just America. Jesus came to earth to be put to death for ALL OF OUR sins. He bore our sins so that we may not have to bear it. That's a HEAVY load! He carried the sins of the entire world on his shoulders so that we don't have to be separated from God in hell and that we can have total freedom. What makes Jesus special is that although He died, on the third day He rose from the dead! He's alive and conquered death! Praise God!
So this week as we gear up to celebrate Veterans Day, let us remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms in America. But most importantly, let us remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us so we can have eternal life in heaven. Have a blessed week!
